Confession of Faith

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and of the life of the world to come. Amen.

Morning Worship

Silent Prayer and Apostolic Greeting

1 Corinthians 1:3

Call to Worship

Psalm 59:16-17

Hymn of Adoration

I Greet Thee Who My Sure Redeemer Art (Trinity Hymnal #168)

Confession of Sin

O great and everlasting God, Who dwells in unapproachable light, Who searches and knows the thoughts and intentions of the heart; We confess that we have not loved You with all our heart, nor with all our soul, nor with all our mind, nor with all our strength; Nor our neighbors as ourselves. We have loved what we ought not to have loved; We have coveted what is not ours; We have not been content with Your provisions for us. We have complained in our hearts about our family, about our friends, about our health, about our occupations, about Your church, and about our trials. We have sought our security in those things which perish, rather than in You, the Everlasting God. Chasten, cleanse, and forgive us, through Jesus Christ, who is able for all time to save us who approach You through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for us. Amen

Assurance of Pardon

Psalm 105:1-6

Hymn of Adoration

Crown Him with Many Crowns (Trinity Hymnal #295)

Confession of Sin

Lord, though You should guide us, we inform ourselves; though You should rule us, we control ourselves; though You should fulfill us, we console ourselves. We think Your truth too high, Your will too hard, Your power too remote, Your grace too free. But they are not! And without them, we are of all people most miserable. O Lord heal our confused minds with Your word, heal our divided wills with Your law, heal our troubled consciences with Your love, heal our anxious hearts with Your presence, all for the sake of Your Son, who loved us and gave Himself for us. Amen.

Hymn of Adoration

We Come, O Christ, to You (Trinity Hymnal #181)

Confession of Sin

Redeeming God, We thank you for making us capable of knowing you, and for awakening our souls to desire you. Help us to approach you with reverence and awe; not with presumption or servile fear, but with holy boldness and joyful expectation. We confess to you today that we are prone to love our own wisdom better than yours. In our weakness we forget to think of you, to ask for your help, or to remember how foolish we are. In our pride and rebellion, we spurn your wise commandments and instruction. We confess to you that we find it difficult to trust you, and we fear you in all the wrong ways. You have punished your precious Son in our place and given us spiritual riches beyond imagination. Help us to believe that there is no wrath left for us, because you have poured it all out on Christ in our place. Amen.

Psalm 33:1-5

Hymn of Adoration

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (Trinity Hymnal #53)

Confession of Sin

Mighty God, You are good beyond measure while I am shaped by sin. My lips are ready to confess, but my heart is slow to feel, and my ways slower to change. I bring my soul to You: break it, wound it, bend it, mold it. Show me sin’s deformity, that I may hate and flee from it. My abilities have been weapons against You. I have misused my strengths and labored against Your kingdom. Give me grace to mourn my foolishness. Grant me to know that the way of the sinner is hard, that to depart from You is to lose all good. I have seen Your perfect law, the happiness of those who embrace it, and the dignified walk to which it calls; yet I daily violate and despise it. Your Spirit strives within me, yet I provoke Him to abandon me. For these sins I cry pardon. Work in me profound and abiding repentance. Give me the fullness of a godly grief. Grant that through true repentance I may see more clearly the brightness and glories of the saving cross.

What is the Chief End of Man?

Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.

Read the Westminster Shorter Catechism

What Is My Only Comfort in Life and Death?

That I am not my own, but belong–body and soul, in life and in death–to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.

He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
