Holy Father, you see us as we are, and know our inmost thoughts. We confess that we are unworthy of your gracious care. We forget that all life comes from you and that to you all life returns. Confession of Sin

God of all grace, we are weak and forgetful people, easily distracted by the joys and sorrows of our lives. We are capable of great thoughts concerning you one moment, yet we forget your kindness and live as though we had no hope the next. Forgive us, Father, for the unbelief that clings to our sinful flesh and clouds our minds with doubt and fear. May Christ’s death comfort us, for we have been loved with unfathomable love. May his resurrection assure us that his obedience was perfect, his sacrifice accepted, and his work finished. Help us hold fast to the gospel we have believed: to cherish it in our weakness and to profess its power when we stand strong. Deepen our faith and guard our hearts and minds with the helmet of Christ’s salvation, the breastplate of his righteousness, the shield of his faith, the sandals of his peace, and the sword of his truth. Redeeming God, We thank you for making us capable of knowing you, and for awakening our souls to desire you. We confess to you today that we are prone to love our own wisdom better than yours. In our weakness we forget to think of you, to ask for your help, or to remember how foolish we are. Mighty God, You are our deliver and our refuge from danger. We know we have nothing to fear in life or in death, yet we do fear. You have told us to rest from our own striving, yet we often rely on our own strength and find ourselves consumed with anxiety and deeply shaken by this world and by our own weakness. You have promised to work all things in this universe together for our spiritual blessing and good, yet we doubt your love and argue with your wisdom. Lord, thank you that in the midst of our faltering belief, you have provided a strong and power full Savior. Though Satan’s accusations ring in our ears and threatens to undo us, you have declared us righteous and blameless in your sight because of Christ. Silence our mouths when we condemn ourselves, and settle our frightened souls when we tremble with fear before you. Persuade us day after day that you are always on our side, even when we grieve you by a thousand falls. Show us how your wrath toward our sin has been emptied on your precious Son, and let us feel deeply in our souls that Jesus has paid for every sin with his bleeding wounds. Amen.

Gracious Heavenly Father, we bow before you this morning to acknowledge that you alone are Holy, Holy, Holy. Because of our sin we cannot see your glory lest it consume us with your righteous judgment. But you have not left us in darkness. You have given us the light of your Word and the life of your Spirit that we may know our sin. You have given us your Word made flesh, our crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ, that in his sacrifice for us on the cross our sins would be forgiven. So we confess to you our sins of thought, word, and deed that we have committed against you and against all those whom you have created in your image. We rest in your promised forgiveness because of the finished work of Christ for us. We look to you for the comfort of your Fatherly love for us.
