Lord’s Day Worship – November 1, 2020

October 29, 2020 by Micah

Morning Worship

Silent Prayer and Apostolic Greeting

1 Corinthians 1:3

Call to Worship

Psalm 113:1-3

Hymn of Adoration

How Firm a Foundation (Trinity Hymnal #94)

Confession of Sin

Mighty God, You are our deliverer and our refuge from danger. We know we have nothing to fear in life or in death, yet we do fear. You have told us to rest from our own striving, yet we often rely on our own strength and find ourselves consumed with anxiety and deeply shaken by this world and by our own weakness. You have promised to work all things in this universe together for our spiritual blessing and good, yet we doubt your love and argue with your wisdom. Lord, thank you that in the midst of our faltering belief, you have provided a strong and power full Savior. Though Satan’s accusations ring in our ears and threatens to undo us, you have declared us righteous and blameless in your sight because of Christ. Silence our mouths when we condemn ourselves, and settle our frightened souls when we tremble with fear before you. Persuade us day after day that you are always on our side, even when we grieve you by a thousand falls. Show us how your wrath toward our sin has been emptied on your precious Son, and let us feel deeply in our souls that Jesus has paid for every sin with his bleeding wounds. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Romans 8:31-39

Confession of Faith

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and of the life of the world to come. Amen.

Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder (Trinity Hymnal #172)

Confession of Sin

Mighty God, You are our deliver and our refuge from danger. We know we have nothing to fear in life or in death, yet we do fear. Assurance of Pardon

Romans 8:31-39

Confession of Faith

Heidelberg Catechism #1-2

Q1. What is your only comfort in life and death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

Q2. What do you need to know in order to live and die in the joy of this comfort?

A. First, how great my sins and misery are; second, how I am delivered from all my sins and misery; third, how I am to be thankful to God for such deliverance.

Psalm 113:1-3

Hymn of Adoration

Thou Who Wast Rich beyond All Splendor (Trinity Hymnal #230)

Confession of Sin

Redeeming God, We thank you for making us capable of knowing you, and for awakening our souls to desire you. Help us to approach you with reverence and awe; not with presumption or servile fear, but with holy boldness and joyful expectation. We confess to you today that we are prone to love our own wisdom better than yours. In our weakness we forget to think of you, to ask for your help, or to remember how foolish we are. In our pride and rebellion, we spurn your wise commandments and instruction. We confess to you that we find it difficult to trust you, and we fear you in all the wrong ways. You have punished your precious Son in our place and given us spiritual riches beyond imagination. Help us to believe that there is no wrath left for us, because you have poured it all out on Christ in our place. Amen.
